I've been hooking up all kinds of goodies to my truck, such as fog lights, stop light bar etc. I noticed a slight change on idle, especially when I turn the fog lights on. The truck has the original alt which puts out 95A.I'm thinking about replacing it with one putting out 220A at 1,200 RPMs 100 at idle. Would that be too many Amps for the truck?

Thanks again,
AL.

Hello, they do make a little higher amperage alternator for this truck but check the connection at the Alternator itself. I owned a Ranger and the Alternator main power feed to the battery, that connection gets hot on these, and it will start to melt that area where is bolts on to the Alternator. Some have a plastic sleeve type connection and it's hard to see where it bolts up, but mine was completely melted due to the resistance building up and the inside of the wire was all burnt too. This will cause a loss of current flow and keep getting hot and the problem just gets worse. So check that as well. If the connection that bolts on is all burnt, you'll have to replace the end and part of the cable, or buy a new one.
