Okay, this winter had the symptom for a few months of the alternator/brake light coming on and off ( head lights would dim then back to normal ) and until it went into limp mode and shut off on the freeway in a snow storm. Had it towed home and charged the battery that was six months old and it started and ran good. The car sat two months until I got around to replacing the alternator. This is my son's car and he just told me today that the same dash lights are flashing again only faster flicker. At idle no dash lights come on but when you rev it up they come on and flicker then let up and they go off. The head lights do dim when the dash lights come on. I felt the circuit breakers under the hood and didn't hear or feel anything. Going down the road with the higher rpm they are flickering most of the time. Any suggestions?

Added information. Checked the 10 amp alt fuse and it is okay. The alternator was purchased from NAPA, but what I've been reading a lot of comments recommend using genuine Nissan alternator. What are your thoughts?

Hey PPRINCE72,

What is the battery voltage with the engine running at idle?
What is the battery voltage do when you rev it up?

This will give us a good idea if you have a charging issue.

It sounds like you may potentially have an issue with the alternator belt/belt tension.

Did you replace the belt when you replaced the alternator, how did you adjust the tension?

Let us know how you go here or if you have any further questions.

Regards, Joe

Hi, problem solved but won't probably help anyone else. My son drove the car and ended up going into limp mode after alternator light/brake light came on and stayed on and a noise that started after installing the new NAPA alternator stopped (serpentine belt broke). Okay, what happened was the pulley nut came loose or something happened that the pulley ended up digging into the housing and froze the pulley. First time I had a NAPA part fail like that but human error? Thanks again for your input.
