Battery light on dash is on, but when I accelerate the light goes out. I tapped on the alternator during idle and the light went out. Voltage with light out is 13.8, with light on the battery volts is 12.5

Hi:

It sounds like the alternator is failing. It's odd that by tapping it, you make it work again. Check to make sure there are no connection issues at the alternator. Also, make sure the alternator mount is tight.

If the connectors are in good condition and free of damage and corrosion, then the alternator should likely be replaced. If you look below, I attached the directions from my manual for replacing it. Additionally, here is a link that may help you as well.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions. Also, Merry Christmas!!!

Take care,

Joe
