hose has been leaking coolant directly over and into alternator. The alternator still works, but I'm concerned about long term effect of ethylene glycol coating the inside works. Would you recommend I try to clean the alternator? I've thought of pouring lots of hot soapy water through it to rinse out the ethylene glycol, but I'm afraid that might be a really bad idea. What's your advice? Thanks!

Yep, you have the right idea, just wash it out with soapy water and you should be okay, no long-term effect.
