What would be the best protocol?

I answered the same question about 50 times tonight.
Some of them had very old and/or incorrect information in the responses.

Some of the responses were from moderators, some just from registered members.

But I rolled in like a steamroller and dropped a bomb on the question.
I did NOT go against anything someone else said.
But my “automated response” did shoot down their recommendations.

Is that the best way to handle it?

Come in gang busters.
Present my case.
And then quietly leave?

Hey don't feel bad a wright anwser is wright answer.I've had that happen 100"s of times. Only thing I can suggest is if it's a common problem or a bulletin can't you post it as a link in your post that would take them wright to it.(Your talking about writing the same fix each time, I assume).

Hi

I would say shooting down somwone in public is not very good and if he is a moderator, it would not be good for image.

A PM to point out the mistake, if any would be better than putting it out in the open. Sometimes mistakes are made without the guy knowing it and a PM would allow the person concerned to correct the mistake.

Disagreement is acceptable but we should not be confusing the customer.

Yes I think if it is a Moderator or Tech, then PM them with your concerns or explain the problem with their answer.

We all make mistakes, even the most experienced.

One thing you do not want is a feud between Moderators/techs that spills over to the thread and confuses the customer (yes I said customer).

I wouldn't say I was shooting any one down.

I sent 2CarPro Jack some examples.
I'll wait to see if he thinks I handled it ok.

Tact is not something i'm known for

Ya know, sometimes I run out of patience with the people that give you half a story or you have several times going back and forth to get to the real truth. Like when someone says "my car is making this noise." I feel like saying "just put your car up next to the computer and let me listen to it. Oh well, I've heard that this is the stuff that builds character, if that is so, I am in the running for the biggest character. Sometimes people are just stupid. Thanks for letting me rant! ♥

Sometimes when we tackle a question, our first feel of it makes you think in one direction as the info given is not very clear. So we might be gong in the wrong direction.

Subsequently if someone points out the mistake, it would wake us up and I always appreciate such nudging.

Anyway we are in the service industry so tact must be a strong point. I don't have that when I was younger but over the years I have managed to improve on that. I won't be as good as Dr Hagerty but I am trying.

The feeling is always not good when we get a reply that our replies are not good, etc. Not all our answers would be correct and we don't have to prove to others that we are the best or better than them. Nobody knows everything and mistakes or misdiagnosis do happens, even when we have the physical vehicle and the Chinese have a saying, ' Harmony is Bliss " so keep dirty linen iin the family and everybody should be happy :)

No worries with those posts, if another suggestion is being made, that is a good way to do it. As you have already been informed of. Lol we all communicate pretty good in here, so a PM would be a nice idea, but thta was plenty tactful. No bashing. BTW, since you seem to know your Nissans so well they are all yours. Lol

Gentlemen-Its a jungle in here worst than South Vietnam you old timers should know that-For me I keep shooting at it till it doesn't move or someone with a better shot hits it for good then we all learn.

The overall idea is keep them happy and have trust on us the end of the results is all about helping people in need-mission accomplished

Sometimes you have to get hard to get what you need to answer the question correctly for this you have to play it by ear the way it was asked-The best thing to do is play Kojak/Barnaby Jones and Columbo investigation techniques lol As for Doc with the Putty Cat I love it

I think we can suggest other opitions in the post, if not just PM the mod, so we look good to everyone. No one gets their feels hurt. I will install some rules in the mod welcome page. Thanks for the suggestion, we just keep getting better!

here is the entry

If a post has been answered by a moderator and you see incorrect information either suggest an alternative repair in a new post or PM the moderator involved and let him correct himself. We want to solve problems between us, not in the public eye.

we get stuff done!

Aye Aye Sir,

We hear you loud and clear but too many rules takes the fun out of life ;)

Guidelines would be more appropriate.
Things to do and not to do.
What to do if....
How to if....

I see this as a healthy type of discussion that is most welcomed and it helps us to improve and should leave no hard feelings, I'd rather leave my hard feelings for my wife ;) at my age, that feeling is not 24/7

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Just be respectful of each other. This is beginning to get dragged on a little too far. Read the guidelines or rules, whichever you prefer to call them and help people without undermining each others suggestions. Its really very simple
