Volvo Undercarriage Bearing

I own a 1990 740 GLE Volvo, 16 valves, with 145,000 miles. I had the under carriage bearing replaced 1500 miles ago because of a grinding noise which was diagnosed as the bearing.

Now, when I drive the car, I hear a whine at 55mph which goes away at 65-70mph. The whine started the day after the bearing replacement when I got to 55mph.

I took it back, but was told that the source of the whining noise could not be determined. They also informed me, at that time, that the new bearing was OK.

Did they replace the bad bearing with another bad bearing or did they possibly cause the noise by doing something they weren't aware of such as not putting it on correctly.

Is it OK to drive?

First off there is NO SUCH thing as an undercarriage bearing. You will need the correct part name for help!

Well Mr merlin2021, it seems as if you are a know-it-all smart fart who pens odorous prose. I, too, was concerned about the part name, but that is what I was told. Other volvo repair shops referred to it as the front drive shaft bearing.

But since your possess some much tallent, why don't you propose a fix. Or, baffle me with BS.

Sometimes I do get odius but never odorus!
By the way.I'm not the dope who pay too much for the wrong part. So you see it isnt an UNDERCARRIAGE bearing unless maybe you are from dorkville. All I said was get the right name and I would help, however I don't usually assist people who are insulting.

Sounds good to me. But, I bet if I donated $1000, an answer, right or wrong, would be forthcoming.

It is all about money not free good advice as advertised.

Stuff it!

Merlin I am with you. I read the post and all you did was ask for the part name. Maybe the guy was having a bad day. How are you suppose to figure out what is wrong when people give you wrong information.

Hey Citico,

Why did you put this in the "questions for all other cars"? Didn't like the odds a Volvo guy might answer it?

One last thing, when you say.

"Sounds good to me. But, I bet if I donated $1000, an answer, right or wrong, would be forthcoming. "

Not only am I deeply offended, but also you truly show how ignorant you can be. Here is the situation: The fellow techs and myself have paid our dues in the miserable world of the auto repair industry. IT is generally thankless, it is horrendously expensive to be an owner or tech, involves serious brain racking, massive stress and the ability to maintain ethics.

To get the information out of the “ person having the car difficulties” is CRITICAL! For you to treat Merlin like that was BS and you owe him an apology. If you’re Man enough and can do that, I’ll try to help you... And bet others can forgive. See when we spend out free time here... To help people we don’t know; help them understand, learn and maybe fix their car, see if they are being treated fairly at their local garage or have no other avenue to take..... Baby, it ain’t for the money. It’s a pat on the back, but frankly I could make that in 3 hours on a side job if I chose to spend my time that way. It gets frustating dealing with people who give lousy info to work with. You ask a few questions and don't reply. Over and Over. Personally, I get a little irritated with it an don't answer them if there is lacking or whacko information.
