A friend of mine broke down. I believe it his Ignition Switch but would like a second, third or more opinion. Oh, he his a few hundred miles from me so can't take look in person.

It's an 89 Mazda B2600 P/U.

Problem.

Turns key to start and start just fine till releases the key and it springs back to the run position. Then it shuts down.

It all in concurrance with Ignition Switch can it be by passed till he gets back home.

Thanks

Agree on ign. Sw. Shaould be able to jumper batt pos to coil + that will feed all circuits feed by sw. In run position.
Worth a shot what you got to loose.
Hope this works

Is there a ballast resistor in the circuit? Because if ballast is bad itll start but when key released itll die out.

Good sign if all lights stay on and if when key is released he looses 12v to coil but still has power elsewhere!

Thanks for the input and I don't know why I didn't think about jumpin from battery to coil. Anyway, he isn't very mechanically inclined so he had it towed home so I will be going over there tomorrow to check it out.

Not sure about the Ballast Resistor.

Will post findings when get done.

Thanks Again

Ok, well got him going. Just ran wire from Battery (+) to Coil (+) through a Toggle Switch mounted inside cab. Worked and runs great now. He didn't even want to concider replacing the Ignition Switch.

Also no Ballist Resistor that I could fine.

Thanks Again for help.

Well Raz guess the only problem would be finding the vehicle.

Oh, wait might not be that hard. It's the only B2600 on the Outer Banks.

Come get it before he calls me again. PLEASE!

Especially since there is a lot of modifications done under the hood and in dash.
