Welcome to the forum. :)

First thing to try is to listen for it running. When the key is turned to the on position you should hear the buzz for a second or two. If you don't hear it in the drivers seat recruit a helper and try listening at the filler pipe with the gas cap off.

N0 hum = no pumping. Check the fuses and the relay before condeming the pump as a failure.

Good luck and let us know.

Suggested Repair

Turn the key to ON and listen for a brief fuel-pump buzz. If it is not heard from the driver's seat, have a helper listen at the filler pipe with the gas cap off. No hum means the pump is not running. Check the fuses and fuel-pump relay before condemning the pump.

Conversation Summary

The owner asked how to tell if a fuel pump is bad. The expert advised listening for a one- to two-second buzz when the key is turned on, including at the filler pipe with the cap removed if it cannot be heard inside. No hum indicates no pumping, and the fuses and relay should be checked before replacing the pump.
