Car ran rough with engine light on then flickering. Pulled plug wires from distributor to check which plug was not firing. When plug 1 was pulled the car died and will not start again. Could this be a distributor and cam problem?

Sometimes the wires on the plugs are difficult to pull off and they are somewhat fragile. There is no reasoning for the car not to start again other than the timing just was not right for you, bad luck I guess. I suspect the plug wires could be bad. You can pull the plugs and look at them to tell if one of the plugs is not functioning correctly. The color should be black and not look like the other plugs for coloring. You can try an other set of wires from another car to test with.

Thanks for the suggestion. Turns out the ignition coil went bad and once I replaced the ignition wires the car runs like a champ.
