Hey Paul,
Dark blue/white - in
brown/lt green-out to b/u lights
Just a word of caution though, jeep/chrysler tranny's may do some funky stuff if the NSS fails and serious damage may occur as a result. If you experience ANY shifting issues .....PARK IT! ..... I know the NSS can be pricey, but its alot cheaper than a tranny!! Good Luck!!

Suggested Repair

The reverse-light circuit is dark blue/white on the input and brown/light green out to the backup lights. Replace the failed neutral safety switch rather than leaving it bypassed, and park the vehicle if any shifting problems appear to avoid transmission damage.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 1996 Jeep Cherokee with a failed neutral safety switch asked which wires feed the reverse lights so they could be put on a toggle after bypassing the switch. The expert identified dark blue/white as the input and brown/light green as the output to the backup lights, and warned that a failed switch can cause transmission problems. They advised parking the vehicle if shifting issues appear and replacing the switch rather than risking the transmission.
