95 Riv Cat Converter. (Exhaust Question)

My Catalytic Converter basically blew in half the other day. I bought another one to replace it (obviously I need adapters for it) Anyways I was thinking that instead I could just put a straight exhaust pipe in its place.

Has anyone done anything like this? Are there any negative side effects? I really would appreciate some input.
