I have a problem just recently started. If I give the car too much gas too fast it seems to sputter and pop. If I ease on the gas I can get it up to any RPM and it don't sputter or pop. But if I give it too much gas even at cruising speed or from idle it does this. Could it be the coil?

Sputter and pop sounds more like fuel/intake delivery problems or timing related. Could be any number of things from fuel pressure to vacuum lines to plug wires shorting. I have successfully addressed a similar problem with a simple fix to a vacuum line.
