Part II of my earlier post: http://www.2carpros.com/forum/1991-explorer-not-moving-very-well-vt34575.html
I have been driving it for a couple days now, and when its cold if I put the shifter in d, 2, or 1 it seems to go right into gear, but if I shift it into OD it slips right out. It will move, just not well (2-5mph@4500 rpm) once it's in, however, it moves just fine, no shifting probs, no noise from the tranny, etc. I'm going to take it to a tranny shop but am just curious... I have been told it sounds like a clogged trannt filter and also a bad vacuum modulator but I can't seem to locate the modulator on it. It's a 91 explorer, 4.0 v6, auto w/od. Any ideas?

Try the filter first, thats the cheapest fix. Vacumn modulators used to control harshness of shift, but they have not been used for quite a few years now.

Is the fluid "burnt" or pink? I think the OD clutch is burnt.

No I checked the fluid first off, its not burned or pink, but it reads really high on the dipstick even though I have not added to it in some time. I contacted a local tranny shop, though and the tech seemed to think the same thing, that an internal clutch was going bad.
