Hi there, am hoping someone can help!!!
Driving along today aproaching approximately 70 miles per hour, I was in 5th gear, when my revs increased upto about 6000rpm and I didn't accelerate. I slowed down to about 50mph and checked I was in top gear!! (5th). approached 70mph again and the rev counter went up again. I turned off the busy road and took to the side streets, where the car and acceleration was fine - I only went to about 30/40 mph - however, then again, I decided to go onto another stretch of road close to my house where I accelerated again in top gear to about 70mph and the revs started to go upto about 6000rpm and the car wasn't accelerating, I then slowed down to arrive at my house and I saw smoke coming from under the bonnet, I got into my drive (perfect timing) and I opened the bonnet to see smoke coming from under the engine down by the exhaust manifold, but it did smell of burning, so what on earth could that be??? Like I said, in low gears it was fine, accelerating as normal, but in top gear at approx 70mph, the car revved like it was in Neutral!!
My car is a Rover 214 fuel Injection. I would appreciate any help or advice you could offer me!!
Many thanks,
Steven
