Is there some kind of safety feature that this V-8 engine has that locks it up just in case it is running too low on oil? I cranked it one morning and the oil gauge dropped down and went up intermittantly, nevertheless the car was running. After about 2-3 minutes of high speed idling it shut off. No clunk or clank but afterwards all I got was click, click. Any suggestions?

try cranking the engine with a 1/2 inch drive ratchet to see if it is locked up and let us know

If oil pressure is low ford put in a saftey feature to shut off fuel pump! you must solve the pressure problem, replace the oil pressure switch about 12.00 US.
