1995 Questions for all other cars 4 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Manual 74000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------Rover 400 1.6i 16v
i am changing my head gasket, before taking the cam belt off i need to secure the two camshaft sprockets together so they dont move during the removel of the cyl/head, i did'nt have the correct tool so i used plastic ties this did the job so i thought until i removed the belt and the cyl/head, thats when the sprockets span round!!!! nocking the timeing out of sequence.

My Qustion is: when refitting the head is it just a case of alligning the lower camshaft sprocket timing to top dead centre (TDC) and then positioning the top two sprockets(exhaurst and inlet) to there correct postion before refitting the cyl/head + cambelt??????? please help!

y advice is next time use the correct tool .. but as long as the 2 top camshafts have not moved then align "crankshaft" to #1 @ TDC and the timing should be correct .. there are timing marks for all 3 on the pulley's still !!
