I went into the dealership to fix a broken clock spring on my car, as it is causing the airbag light to be on, and the steering wheel controls do not work. When I brought it in, they ran diagnostics and said they could fix the clock spring, but that they found that the passenger occupancy sensor module was faulty and in order to remove the airbag light I would also have to fix that. My confusion is that it seems to be working perfectly and has since I bought it. Whenever a person (or heavy object) is in the front passenger seat, it detects it and if they aren't buckled the seatbelt light and beeps will come on until they buckle. This is still the case even since I left the dealership. I am trying to figure out if the module can work correctly like that, yet it also be causing the airbag light issue as they are telling me. I don't know if maybe they were getting an incorrect error code reading or something, or if it can just be cleared.

Hi,

What they tell you is correct. The module may not be recognizing or communicating with the seat sensor, or the sensor may be sending a faulty message.

The seat sensor is tied to the airbag module. If there is no one sitting on the seat, the airbags will not deploy on that seat. In your case, if the airbag lamp is on, the system will not actuate.

I'm not sure if you plan to do this yourself or not, but I attached the directions for replacing the passenger occupancy sensor module.

Let me know if this helps or if you have questions.

Take care,

joe

Thank you so much as I am contemplating fixing myself. My question would be, that since it detects when someone is in the seat without a seatbelt correctly, yet it is still giving the code, I should be replacing the control module, and don't need to replace the sensor, because the sensor is working, or would I need to replace something else? If it is the module, would this be the part: 2012-2015 VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT Passenger Seat Occupant Detector Module 5C6959339B? Thanks again

Hi,

Based on your description, it does sound like the sensor is working. By any chance, do you have the diagnostic trouble code they found?

As far as the part number is concerned, it appears to be correct. However, I would confirm that with a dealership using the vehicle's VIN. VW loves to change things midyear or whenever they feel the need. LOL

Let me know.

Joe
