My car airbag warning turned red or on always when driving. How to switch it off?

It has to be scanned for codes to see what is wrong with the system. it can be a sensor in front or seats. it can even be a clock spring problem in steering column, but must be scanned to see what codes are a mechanic has to do this. As HMAC says, you have to get it scanned to see what codes are set. There is no "turn it off" without repairing the fault.
Does it seem to turn on more when you are steering the car around corners (or turn on/off while turning? That would be an indication of a faulty clock spring more than any other item. Does it matter if you have a passenger or not?
