air intake resonator

I had taken the car apart to replace the thermostat housing. As I was installing everything back, the black hard plastic pipe or hard plastic hose, I had left it out. In installing it to the engine filter box, I broke the piece from the air intake resonator, the piece with the 10mm (I think) screw. Do I need this resonator in the vehicle or can I live without it?

Hi,

Any air leaks after the mass airflow sensor will cause drivability issues. See the pic below. I highlighted between the airbox and MAF. I'm not 100% sure where your part broke.

If possible, can you take a pic of the broken part so I can see it?

The highlighted part on the left pic is what broke. It's sort of a clamp that attaches to a metal plate in the vehicle with a 10mm or 12mm bolt.
Now the black circle, rt. underneath the highlight attaches to the vehicle with a plastic round clip that you just push in with your fingers. The plastic resonator seems to be fine with it and feels tight. I just taped the broken piece down with heavy duty flex tape and it seems sturdy and firm.

Hi,

If it is strong and not leaking, it should be fine. If, however, that changes, I saw them online for under $30.00. I would replace it if this repair fails.

What do you mean by not leaking? Does any type of liquid pass through there?
