Air conditioning powers off intermittently

Especially when it is hot outside like today, it will just completely shut off. It has always come back on and sometimes while driving still. This time it hasn’t come back on yet. I've been reading about fan and blower resistor motors or switches possibly being the cause. And my dash gets. Super-hot. Could it be overheating literally?

So, it sounds like the air stops blowing from the dash, is this correct? If so, it is common to have the blower motor go out which can come and go like you have described. Here is a guide to help you test the blower motor and the location of the motor and how to replace it in the diagrams below:
