Do I need to buy an air compressor along with manifold gauges and a vacuum pump to service my truck's A/C system?

I remember the last time my car was serviced the tech was using an air compressor when using a vacuum pump. If I do need a compressor, how much hp should my new compressor have?

Hi,

Oftentimes, the system is vacuumed down to check for leaks and then recharged. To do that, you do need a vacuum pump. I'm not sure what he did with a compressor.

Now, if you want to simply add Freon to the system, then no you don't need to vacuum the system.
