After installing an aftermarket fuel pump, the fuel gauge is not working and the fuel light is on

Installed new fuel pump and the car runs fine but no fuel indicator and the fuel light is on. There is proper resistance coming off the sending unit.

Yep, It could be the float got messed up during the installation, if not I would get a Motorcraft unit from Amazon or Rockauto to replace it with. Here is a video that will help you do the job:
