My partner was rear ended yesterday while at a full stop at a set of light's by two cars coming together from behind. The car is now making a horrible noise when not in gear but it goes away if you dip the clutch. The car is now also struggling in 1st and 2nd any ideas and could this be due to the collision?

Very likely. Collisions can bend/break parts that were not really involved in the accident just from the impact. In your case it could be a transmission mount that was moved in the accident. Best thing is to take it to a shop and have them check for damage. It could be something very minor like a heat shield hitting or similar, or it could be that the trans was damaged. No real way to tell without a visual inspection.
