I have seen several people online add these controls without any dealer interaction, basically plug-n-play. I did the same and the swc lights up but it does not work. Are there certain OEM factory head units that work with swc and some that don’t? If the swc lights up does that mean that clock spring is correct? Do you have factory numbers for all the needed parts? If I switch to another unlocked factory radio that is approved for my vehicle, would it plug-n- plug with swc?

Here is the information I found:

When adding Steering Wheel Controls (SWC) it’s essential to consider compatibility with the vehicle’s factory radio, as not all head units support these controls.

Here are the part numbers you might need to check or replace:

Steering wheel control switch assembly: Look for GM part number 25851951 (may vary depending on trim level).

Clock spring (if required): GM part number 20964133 (verify based on your vehicle’s trim).
Factory radio (if upgrade required): It’s essential to ensure that the radio is SWC-compatible.

A common compatible head unit for these trucks is part number 25823361, but the exact number may vary based on trim and options.

SWC harness (if necessary to add controls): GM part number 25973335.

Check the part numbers on your current head unit and confirm if it’s SWC-compatible.

Let us know if you need anything else.
