1999 Acura TL Starting car in gear

1999 Acura TL 6 cyl Automatic 93000 miles

I was getting gas this morning and when I went to leave the station I accidentally started my car while it was in reverse. I shut the car off immediately and put it in park and restarted it and since then when I stop the engine sounds like it is in gear and wants to go. When I put it in park and stop it makes that same sound. No other problems other then the engine noise doesn't come to an idle sound when I am at a stop. Will this reset itself or have I done something majorly wrong.

Hi ericktrachsel,

The engine should not have started when the gear shift is in any position other than R and P.

You did not cause the problem but rather somethng was wrong and you need to get it checked out, especially the inhibitor switch (gear shift position indicator switch)

Thank you for the reply. I believe the shift was in the R position when it was started and I am taking it in tomorrow to be checked out. Thanks for your response.
