How do I press the brake piston back into the caliper? Either I have a seized piston or I am doing something wrong. Do I use the conventional 'c' clamp to push the piston back in because if so it doesn't seem to work. Is there a valve somewhere on the brake line that I have to open up to let the brake fluid travel back to the reservoir or am I just being a nut?

The caliper piston should retract the same as most others. You can open the bleeder valve and try it that way. If it compresses easily, i'd start looking at the brake hose for blockage. If it doesn't compress, sounds like a frozen caliper piston. A c-clamp is ok to use. Don't forget to place the old brake pad between the c-clamp and the piston.
