2003 Acura MDX Ball Joints and Lower Control Arms

2003 Acura MDX 165000 miles

What are the symptoms of bad ball joints on my acura mdx. Do I have to replace the lower control arm in order to replace the ball joints? The ball joints have never been replaced except from dealer. I heard that the ball joints are welded to the control arm, is this true?

The ball joints are not replaceable, you have to replace the lower control arm, it's a whole assembly
