My Acura starts fine but when I put it into gear, it makes a loud gearing noise and will not move. I put it back into park and the noise is gone. What could this be?

Hi there.

This sounds as if the transmission or differential has failed, i would not put it into gear again and get it towed to a transmission specialist ASAP.
