Engine Performance problem
1995 Acura Legend 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 211K miles

If I turn the car off after the engine is hot, then turn it back on the engine surges and the speedometer sort of bounces up and down. Does anyone know what causes this?

Hi bigman110,

Check the radiator coolant level.
Check the throttle body and IAC and their coolant hoses for clogging.

Speedometer only bounces up and down when engine is hot? I suspect the speed sensor is faulty.

Sounds like your Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) might be on its' way out. Common problem on Legends, I have replaced it on both of my Legends in the past. Eventually you might get a check engine light indicated CODE 17. If the problem becomes severe enough it will usually be followed with a blinking D4 light (if it's an automatic). If you see erratic reporting of your speedometer or bouncing around even while stopped. It is a definate sign. A $120 part.
