It does not matter whether they went near the tach or not. Timing is of the essence. In other words, this problem occurred RIGHT after their work. Even as you started it up to leave?
The way I would troubleshoot the problem is to go back and unhook the modules for a starter and check that. Then you have to dig into the wiring that was done.
One comment that I must make. I have a number of remote starter installations under my belt and though they may not have touched the tach as you say they had to handle, sort, and test many wires to get this working. Every car is different and have they done a number or any of the same model as yours?
