ABS Light

Hello and thanks for this wonderful site. Yesterday my abs light came on for a few minutes then turned off. Does this sound like the beginning of a problem?
Also when I shift from N to R the stick often appears to be stuck. I tried cleaning in and around it but I imagine it needs more than that. I have had the transmission oil changed once.
thank you

Hi poorvic,

Get a scan done to retrieve the trouble codes. Something could be loose or failing intermittently and the scan would retrieve the trouble codes and provide an idea what to look for.

It could be anything from a dirty sensor to a bad ABS accumulator.

Is it easy to shift into P?
Is shifting into R from P easy?
Was any repairs carried out?

Hi -

Just recently noticed that my ABS light has been coming on intermittently.

I recall this happening exactly after I removed one front tire to check out my break pads.

The pads were fine, so I left everything alone.

Dont know if this is related?

In any event, any ideas as to what I should check before I bring it to a mechanic?

Thanks in advance!

You can pull the wheels and inspect the wires for any obvious physical damage. Other than that, the system will need to be scanned to see what the problem is

Is the ALB/ABS indicator light showing? Yes comes on then shuts off from time to time

When stopped, does the brake pedal sinks when the brake pedal is held depressed? Yes Sometimes it works, Sometimes it sinks

So basically the light comes on from time to time and it also makes that buzzing noise under the hood periodically. When I press the pedel at first I feel the pressure but as I come to stop it starts to sink. Any help on what it can be and how much it could cost to fix it. I love my car and dont want to sell it if I can get it fixed without "braking" my bank.

Hi yveangel09,

Retrieve the trouble code to find out what is wring. However the symptoms seems to point to a faulty ABS modulator unit.

RETRIEVING CODES
1 . Turn engine off. Turn ignition on. Ensure ANTI-LOCK warning light comes on. Start engine and check ANTI-LOCK warning light. If warning light goes out, no fault codes exist.

2 . If light remains on, turn engine off. Disconnect service check connector. Connect SSC Short Connector (07PAZ - 0010100) to service check connector. ( A jumper wire or papar clip would do )

3 . Turn ignition on, but DO NOT start engine. ANTI-LOCK warning light should start flashing Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC).

4 . First flashing sequence indicates main code of DTC, and second number indicates sub code of DTC. See Fig. 3 . A one - second pause separates main and sub codes. Total of 3 DTC's can be set at one time. There is a 5 - second pause between DTC's.

5 . To recheck DTC sequence, turn ignition off for a few seconds and then turn it back on. After codes are retrieved, go to appropriate test under TROUBLE CODES to diagnose system.

The modulator unit is listed at $1735.15.

Anti-Lock Brake System. This is a braking system designs to control skidding. While the light is on, your ABS is not functioning.

You must get the code read and properly diagnosed.

Hi,
When I turn my car on, there will be a series of weird buzzes from the passenger side, under the hood. After that happens eventually my ABS light will come on and My ABS wont work anymore. What are the possible problems and how would you fix them? Thanks a lot!
- Buddy

Hi Buddy,

Symptoms indicates a bad ABS accumulator which is leaking internally. The buzzing is the motor working to pump up the pressure but when pressure does not build up after a certain time lapse, the ABS control unit cuts of the ABS system

You would need to replace the accumulator and bleed the brake system

1994 Acura Integra mileage: 82,000. The ABS light on my car was on so I brought the car to the mechanic and he said he didn't know why it was on so he unplugged the ABS. I thought that would help the breaks sound better, but they are getting worse they squeak and make a grinding noise when I stop short. Do you think I need new breaks? If so, how much do you think they will cost, for front and back?

The ABS (antilock breaking systems) light will light when there is a malfunction in the braking system. The fault code is then stored in the computer. The computer must be scanned to retrieve these stored faults to pinpoint the malfunctioning component. The grinding and squeaking noise is probably caused by the brake pads being worn down (metal to metal contact). Inspect the brakes ASAP. The cost will should not be too bad go amazon. Com to find most Acura rotors. The cost of the rotors is about $28.00 each and the pads are about $26.00 total cost about $82.00. At a repair garage for the same job, out the door about $340.00.
