I have a 99 integra ls 1.8 b18b1 automatic. I am having a strange problem when backing up (reverse gear). The car will go into reverse like normal for about 30 seconds then act like its in neutral, but I never moved the shifter from reverse. I can shift into neutral then put the car back into reverse & repeat the steps til the car is backed out. The forword gears seem to be fine, I do not have a cel light, so no codes are shown. The d4 light is not flashing while driving. The car operates normal, other than this. The problem is not new. It will act up about 3-5 days then perform normal. It may be 6 months before it acts up again. I am thinking maybe the (TCM) transmission control module. Any direction would be great. Thanks

Hi gta007,

If it is the TCM, it would normally cause the D4 light to blink when the problem occurs.

Possible causes for the slipping in reverse are :

Defective 4th Clutch Or 4th Accumulator
Feed Pipe "O" Ring Damaged
Servo Valve Stuck

Since the problem is intermittent and you do not have flaring when shifting into 4th gear, I would suspect the servo valve to be the most likely cause.

When it is stuck, the problem occurs and after repeatedly shifting in and out of reverse, the servo valve starts working and the problem goes away.

If the fluid had not been replaced for a long time, replacing it might reduce or eliminate the problem.
