Smells problem
1997 Acura Integra 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

First of all I would like to thank Mark who responded to my question. I did have the system checked by a professional and they did say that there was a problem with the canister. I am wondering after it is replaced is there something that can make the new canister do the same thing. The mechanic said that from their assessment everything else was working properly.

Also concerning the smell. Since I have to wait for a paycheck to purchase this canister which is about two weeks. Are the fumes dangerous to my health. They are not too strong until the car gets really heated up, what is worse is that the smell stays with the clothes and seats. I drive with the windows down which can be a pain when it's cold but you gotta do what you gotta do. I did ask the mechanic if it was dangerous and he said no. Any answers?

Thanks.

And thanks again Mark. I think that it is great that people take the time to give just a little knowledge or advice to others who don't know. I'll pay it forward.

Hi John,

You should have replaied to your previous post so that Mark cuold have followed up when he receives notification. Due to overhelming questions coming in, there is a possibility your question can get missed out.

A little fumes is ok but what you are describing does not look like it is a little. Excessive fuel fumes is definitely not good for the lungs and health.

Such cannisters seldom gives problem and if there are any possible causes, it would be from the fuel venting system which might be loading fuel into the cannister causing it to be saturated and resulting in the fumes smell.

You can try the scrap yard for a used unit which would be cheaper.
