Engine Cooling problem

I have a 1995 Acura Integra Special Edition in the past day I have replaced the radiator because I was having coolant leak from the bottom passenger side, that was sporadic, it only leaked on occasion. Besides knowing where the coolant was collecting on the underskirt there was no sign of a major leak. Wondering if anyone could help me out because it will still leak in that place.

Hi new2acura,

Did you replace the radiator hoses when you replaced the radiator?

If leakage is from front part, it could be radiator and its hoses.

If nearer to firewall, then there are more possibilities.
Thermostat housing, heater hoses, water pump passage.

If you have coolant, look for stains on engine parts to determine possible areas.

Well I isolated the larger leak to be the lower radiator hose and replaced that. Now I am noticing some seepage from the thermostat housing. I just had that replaced by a service garage, so could it be that they did not also replace the thermostat gasket? I dont belive right now that it is a problem with the head gasket because I constently check for signs of coolant in both the spark plugs and oil and so far both appear to be fine. Any input will help. Thanks

Hi new2acura,

If the leakage is between the thermostat outer and main housing, the gasket is not providing enough sealing due to the following.

1. Gasket not of correct size, improperly seated.
2. Corrosion on the gasket seats, which is higher possibility.
3. Warping of the outer housing.

Thank again for the help, but now there is another issue. Just today for the first time after driving coolant was leaking again this time it was puddling on top of my transmission housing and seeping down. Any thoughts?

Hi new2acura,

Around this area you have

1. Lower radiator hose, check if joint is secure.

2. Heater hose.

3. Thermostat housing.

Check which part is leaking after running engine for a short while and stop.
