1994 Acura Integra Fans don't come on until engine smells h

the fans come on with ac on. The fans do not come on until car smells very hot. Should fan come on with
heater???What temp should fans come on???
the car has been tuned.
Also car pings when cold.....until operating temp shows normal.
I am original owner....serviced regular, don't drive
it hard.

Check and test the coolant temperature sensor and engine temperature gauge sender
