1994 Acura Integra Automatic 121000 miles

When the distributer goes out on the car. What could be the causes besides mileage?

Our car was stolen, joy ridden, and returned. Now
the mechanic says the distributer doesn't work so that is our cost because of the mileage. The transmission is ruined, gears stripped, but they say
the distributer is just bad luck.

Is this true or could the distributer have been ruined
by the kids that took the car?

If the distributor goes out you won't get spark and the engine will not start. How was it returned?
