I want to use a do it yourself kit to recharge my a/c unit which is dead, to change it from R12 to R134 and since it has such high mileage I want to do it myself. The compressor is fine, the a/c is empty (no cold air at all) I've do this on another import and it worked great-just wanted a expert opinion on not vaccuming out the old R12 and retro fitting the conections myself-along with adding the R134 with lubricant cans by myself to get the a/c unit up and running again - it takes 34oz or a little less than 2 lbs of gas. Thanks in advance for any tips-Z

Hi there,

You will have to change the compressor oil and the receiver dryer, back filling the system on the low pressure side is not the best way to do this, you really do need to get the system vaced down to remove all traces of of refrigerant and also make sure that you have no leaks, (holding a vacuum) I would consider getting this part done by a professional, then you know it will be right.
