Noticed when driven almost imediately the engine light comes on and the car will not go past 3000 RPM, then will act like it is red lining. Did diagnostic in car and 4 codes popped up: 7, 14, 17, 43. Are these codes in result of this issue or am I missing something? Also, cannot pass smog. Running rich according to smog tech?

Hi steveal01.

#7 = Throttle Position Sensor.
#14 = EACV
# 17 = Vehicle Speed Sensor.
# 43 = HO2S

Reset code and retest to see if all codes comes out. TPS would cause the rpm to be limited at 3,000.
EACV = poor idling
VSS = speedometer not functioning and erractic gear shifting.
HO2S = failing smog test.

Well I reset the system and all codes no linger show up, now except for code #4. Regarless, I changed the o2 sensor since a local shop thought this might have caused the car to run rich. On the code #4, doe this involve only the ignitor? Checke the repair manual and lookes like that could be the case. I did notice that the electrical wiing from the Distributor looks pretty bad. Looks like heat got to it and sleeve got brittle and breaking up. Can I only change the wiring in on the distributor connecting the the ignitor or is it best to change whole sitributor all together? Note- car still won't go past 3K rpm after engine linght comes on and no other codes showing.

Hi steveal01,

Code # 4 = Crankshaft Position Sensor.
The distributor is bad and has to be replaced.
