1.) Raw fuel odor when car first started - doesn't come from under hood - think it comes from exhaust. Engine runs perfectly - no sputter, choking, etc. Odor disappears immediately. Worse when car is cold, but sometimes occurs when warm, too.
2.) Whining sound from fuel system area at idle speed while in DRIVE - Can't pinpoint location - could be one of many dashpots that is leaking vacuum. The sound stops when increasing engine speed even slightly. Also removing hoses from various dashpots increases speed and sound stops.
Could a failing dashpot cause the excess gas injection at startup? If so, which dashpot is likely culprit. Or is it possible an injector is leaking gas into cylinder when engine is turned OFF & then that gas passes through unburned and odor detected at tailpipe when the car is re-started?
