My car had been acting up really funny lately. In neutral if I rev up to 2000 rpm and hold, the rpm surges down then back up. And then either both in nuetral and driving after 2500 rpm, the rpm needle will jump forward erraticaly with minimal engine acceleration. I do not feel any jerk or any pull I can however hear a slight increase in the engines rpm's. This does it at different times and is not affected by temperature and sometimes it does sometimes it does'nt but more often during acceleration. I have already changed the distributor (but with another used one, that I was told was good), the spark plugs, spark plug wires, and the ignition coil. I have even cleaned out the fuel system and throttle body. Oh btw, it's running a S-AFC controller to lower the percentage the injectors deliver due them being bigger than stock. Can this still be cause by the IACV, or do you feel I have another faulty dizzy?

Thanks in advance

Hi irockstar661,

Your initial change of distributor was because of this problem or other?

When rpm drops from 2,000, does the engine sounds as if its rev is dropping too?

The rpm gets its signal from the distributor coil, so if it is not the coil, then you might have a faulty meter assy.

Thank you for the response.

Yes, the initial dizzy change was due to the same problem. Although now Im being told it still could be another bad dizz seeing how it was used. I guess the IGNITER goes bad all the time on these older integras. Um. When its in neutral at 2k yes the engine drops in rpm's as well. But during driving or idle never happens. But when it jumps foward from 3000 then upward I notice no engine change. OH. And doubt its the meter assy as I have a SAFC connected directl to the coil that is reading crazy too!

Hi irockstar661,

I would say the ICM is quite reliable, in fact the coil would give out more often.

Since both rpm meters are the same, I guess you would have to look at the distributor again. Check for loose connections, a bad connector would cause that too.
