I cannot press the button to allow my gear shift to release out of park. Recently, my brake light has been on & off when I drive, but I have had my brakes serviced. Could the brake sensor light be the problem?

When it is very quiet you should be able to hear release of the shifter as the brake is applied. Either the switch at the brake pedal is out or the solenoid at the shifter.

I can not hear it. I can only hear it when it is working. Forgive me, but what is the solenoid?

Thanks for the quick response.
