I have an 1999 2.3 Acura CL with a 140,000 miles. When I hit the accelerater, an awful groaning noise occurs. It's been about 5 days since I first heard the noise, and it seems to be getting louder each day. I only hear the sound when I push on the accelerator. Please let me know what the issue is, and the best place for me to get it fixed without getting ripped off. Thanks!

I wonder about a few things so here goes. Does it continue after the accelerator is pushed or is it just when you touch it to rev the engine up? i might suspect that a bearing on a belt driven device is failing. Does that sound possible? if that is the case i would feel comfortable taking it to any worthwhile mechanic to have it replaced. They would likely replace the device and not repair it. i might suspect something like the alternator or power steering pump. Try to determine if the noise comes from the belt area.
