Yesterday my Check Engine and TCS lights came on together. Idle seems OK, but some stumble on acceleration. Have been using mid grade gas for awhile. Any ideas??

Hi Axedon,

The check light indicates something is wrong with the engine management system. TheTCS may or may not be related to the problem so it is best to get a scan to find out which item is not funtioning as required.

the tcs light is just a byproduct of the check engine light. the tcs' function relies on the engine and cannot operate when the engine is not running correctly. most common cause of this combination is a misfire.
when was your last tune-up?

I have the same problem with these lights coming on. Upon starting the car just the check engine light is on. Then after about a mile or two the TCS light comes on. I’ve scanned and received a ‘multiple cylinder misfire’ code and cylinders 1,4 and now 6 are misfiring. I took the car into a mechanic because of this problem several months ago and payed $900.00 for a complete valve adjustment and tune up. Did I get ripped off? PS: I’m able to clear the lights by pulling the dash fuse but they come right back on with the next trip.

Hello, I'm Danny.

Yes, it sounds like you may have been ripped off. I don't see how a valve adjustment can fix cylinder misfires. What we ask you to do is perform a CAN scan to retrieve all code information from your car. A CAN scan will test all the systems on your car. Here is a tutorial showing what is involved for a CAN scan:

After performing this procedure get back to us with all stored code information and then we can properly diagnose these issues with your car. Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.
