1998 Acura CL Car makes rattling sound when accelerating/de

I just recently bought a used 1998 Acura CL from a car auction, manual drive.

This is my first car, let alone, my first time driving stick.
Since I've had it, it took me a week to get stick shift down.

And since the day I bought it, when I speed up, or slow down even downshifting, my car makes a metallic rattling sound.

I put the needed level of octane gas it it, so its not the gas... Could it be my exhaust?

Help!!! I don't know all the little mechanics behind cars!

Hi monacorona,

Sorry to say this but noise problems are almost impossible to diagnose through cyber.

Lets give it a try to see if we can get something out of it.

At what speed is the noise present?
Does it happen only when accelerating or decelerating?
Is it knocking, screeching,vibrationg or grating noise?
Any idea which portion of vehicle is emitting the noise?
When noise appears, does applying brake, releasing the accelerator pedal or anything cause it to stop?

The noise is usually present at lower speeds, around 10-25. Usually happens during deceleration from a higher speed like 35-40 to the lower speeds of 10-25 mph.

The noise comes from the back of my car, and it sounds like a metallic rattling noise.

Also, recently my car shakes sometimes when I start and go in first gear. It rumbles and vibrates noticably when I engage the clutch.

For the first part, it most probably is a loose heat shield or exhaust. Shake/vibrate or bang the exhaust tailpipe and check if there is any rattling noise.

The second part is most probably clutch judder and problem are usually cause by bad clutch disc, contamination of oil or uneven pressure plate or flywheel. After market clutch parts would cause this problem as well.
