1997 Acura CL EGR Testing

I'm having the typical EGR issues that occur with older acura's. The EGR upgrade kit was installed around 40k miles ago, and now we are getting the P0401 code again. I have a new valve because cleaning out the old one didn't work. My question is, is it possible to run the car with the EGR valve off, so I can see if exhaust gasses are flowing, or will this potentially damage the car?

Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason,

You can run the engine without the EGR valve for testings but it is going to be rather noisy if the exhaust is not clogged.

Thank you VERY much! This is the one piece of information I needed to save a TON of additional trouble shooting. Sure enough, there was ZERO vacuum @ the EGR recirculation port, so I knew the ports were clogged. Cleaned everything out, tested again, and almost sucked my finger into the motor their was so much vacuum! :) Much appreciated, we should now be able to get through DEQ!

Glad that you have some headway into the problem and hopefully the problem is fixed.
