A friend sold me this truck about 8 months ago and didn't know the issues with it at the time. Well got it home on a tow truck. And when I started it up, it idles fine, put it in drive to go around the block it acts like its running out of gas. It's a fuel injected throttle body and I just can't figure it out.

Hi,

Have you checked fuel pressure to see if it is low? If you haven't, you should. Keep in mind, there are a few different things that can cause this type of feeling, but the pump is usually the problem.

Here is a link that explains how to test fuel pressure. Take a look through it and let me know if you are comfortable doing it.

Also, if you haven't, consider retrieving diagnostic trouble codes. This vehicle has an OBD1 system. You don't need a scanner to get codes. Follow the directions in this link:

Let me know the results or if you have questions.

Take care,

Joe

Yes, it has great pressure and I also have replaced the filter. Someone told me they don't think it's timed right because it sounds terrible only when I put it in drive and give a little gas to go. It sounds like knocking and pinging, but it idles fine.

Also, it shuts off when the negative cable is removed and I also took alternator off and had it tested, it's fine.

Hi,

If possible, record the sounds you hear when it's placed in gear and upload it for me to hear. I will watch for your reply.

Take care,

Joe
