Hi, I have a manual transmission diesel car (Fiat urban cross) and I am having intermittent issues of car not accelerating even when the pedal is fully pressed. The problem occurs once in a while especially when car is driven for longer in traffic. No warning lights show up and I had a scan done and it didn't generate any past codes. A local mechanic mentioned that if its anything to do with fuel/air/sensors, warning light should come up and advised to drive until the problem becomes regular but I don't want to wait and perhaps damage other parts as well. So wanted to know what you think is causing the issue?

Hello,

Could you please clarify if this "No acceleration " problem relates to no acceleration at all or if the vehicle will accelerate but only very slowly?
If the vehicle will accelerate slowly and the issue is accompanied by a low idle speed then I would suggest to have your mechanic look at a possible sticky EGR valve or a sticky air control flap. These components are known to coke up and possible require cleaning.

Please see description of how a throttle actuator works (petrol vehicle) but similar in operation on your diesel engine.

and how to clean.

Please see images below for EGR valve (Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve) and air control flap (throttle body).

Please let us know how you get along.

Cheers, Boris
