Hi there. Suddenly just lost the power and doesn’t accelerate. When I put the foot down can barely reach 50 mph and takes too long to reach it. Everything works fine. Non of the lights on the dashboard are on. Doesn’t show anything wrong. Any idea please let me know. Will be very helpful.

Hi Dritan,

Does this vehicle has a 3.0L Turbo Diesel? If so, there are a couple basic things to check. A diesel engine is very dependent on the proper amount of air flow through the engine. If the air filter is plugged or the inlet has some sort of debris restricting air flow then you will be down on power.

Also, just because your check engine light is not on, does not mean there are not codes in the system. I would suggest just having it check for codes and then let me know what if there are and what they are.

The next thing is if a diesel engine does not have the proper amount of fuel it will be down on power. If you have not changed the filter in a while, I would suggest doing that.

However, the only thing in my mind that would explain why it was all of a sudden is if something like a line came off or you pulled something into the air intake. Finally if the turbo suddenly failed it would explain why you lost a lot of power. However, most all these things would set a code in the system which I think past a few preliminary checks, the best thing to do is start with checking for codes.

Let me know and we can go from there. Thanks

Hi. Thanks for your answer. Air filters has been changed two weeks ago. Also I thought myself about the fuel filter so I replaced it after this happened and didn’t make any difference. About the codes what can I do? How can I check it or where can I do it? Thanks

If you don't have a tool to pull the codes out of the computer then either stop by a parts store that will pull them for you. Most of them these days do that for free. Or worst case, have a shop take a look at it. If you have someone hook up a scan tool and try to diag it for you, we need to monitor the fuel to see if it is commanding the proper amount of fuel. Then monitor the turbo itself and ensure it is producing the proper amount of boost.

My opinion is, this sounds like it is not getting enough air or fuel, or the turbo is not producing boost and you are running just off the engine.
