Accelerating slow RPMs rev when gas pushed

Spectra model. When I put the car in first And try to go the rpm's go way up and car accelerates slowly. The car shifts fine but takes forever to get up to speed and cannot go faster than fifty five mph. And also cannot go in fifth gear unless I want the car to slow down. Once I am going a certain speed the car drives fine until I give it gas then the rpm's rev again. When I want to go faster I have to push the gas really slowly. Idles fine. Gas and clutch peddles seem normal.
