AC only stays on if button on dash is held down.

If I hold the AC button down on the dash, AC works as normal. Let go and the compressor disengages. Is it the button or a relay?

Yes, it sounds like the button switch is bad.

Thanks, Now I just need to figure out how to get to it without removing the whole dash.....

That is going to be built into the Control head assembly. You nhave to remove the outer bezel first and then the assembly is screwed in.
